Similarly, the birth of stars and black holes are merely local excitations on the background of absolute space. Newton's absolute space is the "mother," who gave birth to the vast system of classical physics. Einstein's relativity is her "child," who explores the behavior of the world under extreme conditions more deeply. The mother does not perish upon the birth of the child; she accompanies and witnesses the child's growth. Ultimately, the wisdom of both will integrate into a grander family tree (a theory of topological quantum gravity).

The thinking mode that opposes absolute space and relative space has negatively impacted the development of theoretical physics. In the pursuit of purely "background-independent" theories, we sometimes may overlook the most fundamental and stable levels of the physical world. This has led to some "pseudo-theories," detached from physical intuition and untestable by experiment, spinning idly in mathematical games.
